Registration procedure:

Go to http://protea.tenet.ac.za/cgi/cgi-ditche.exe and sign up.

NB Please read the fine print below:

  • Registration will close on the 5th May 2009 i.e. 2 weeks prior to the event or when 60 attendees have registered.
  • Delegates should make their own air travel arrangements, and DITCHE will refund them after the event according to the standard claims procedure. ( http://www.tenet.ac.za/ditche/claim-procedure )
  • Registered delegates who cancel after 5th May 2009 (or who don't arrive) will be required to reimburse TENET the conference and meal costs . Medical and other human emergencies are the only grounds for exemption.
  • Each Institution must offer at least one presentation.
  • By registering you affirm that you have the agreement of your management for your attendance at this event..
Transport:

Attendees from other areas may be required to hire a vehicle to get from the airport and their accommodation to the conference. We request that these be “A class” vehicles (unless there are more than 4 passengers) and that attendees from the same institution travel together to reduce the cost of car hire.

Accommodation:

Attendees should book their own accommodation, the cost of which will be reimbursed according to the standard claim procedure. ( http://www.tenet.ac.za/ditche/claim-procedure ).There are many very good B & Bs in the Summerstrand area and a number of hotels as well e.g. City Lodge.

Presentations:

Presenting is an important skill to acquire and presenting to your peers can be daunting, but it is part of building your personal network of contacts and of building a community of practice.

Attendees are requested to submit the titles of their presentations at least 2 weeks before the event i.e. by the 5th May
2009. You are now able to enter your presentation details online on the DITCHE registration system and this will make it easier to draft the program ahead of time.

Alert

The African Digital Scholarship and Curation Conference is being held the week before NLIT. This means that some of the presenters have already prepared their presentations and presented them so there is no excuse not to present or to submit titles early. I sincerely hope that we can hear a number of those presentations especially as many will not have been able to attend the conference because of costs. If you would like to present at this event but cannot stay for the whole event please let me know.

Background to DITCHE events and Workshops

DITCHE ("Developing IT Capacity in Higher Education") is a donor-funded capacity development program run by TENET. The program was made possible by the generosity of two US donor foundations - the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies - and it aims to nurture the community of practice of IT professionals in public higher education by making professional development resources available at no cost. This event is intended for higher education IT staff who have a substantial responsibility for deploying or managing information technology, in the widest sense of the word, ranging from the purely technical domain to architectural and conceptual issues.
