The National Library IT Event is a national gathering specifically for those with IT responsibilities working in academic libraries in the higher education sector in South Africa. The purpose of the event is to deepen and strengthen the bonds that exist within this community by bringing people together once a year to talk, listen, share ideas, discuss experiences, plan collaborations, and to learn from one another. There are no costs of attendance: travel and accommodation expenses are funded by TENET, and the only institutional commitment is the time and willingness of staff to share their experiences with the rest of the community.
Go to http://protea.tenet.ac.za/cgi/cgi-ditche.exe and sign up.
NB Please read the fine print below:
- Registration will close on the 6th May 2008 i.e. 2 weeks prior to the event or when 80 attendees have registered.
- Delegates should make their own air travel arrangements, and DITCHE will refund them after the event according to the standard claims procedure. ( http://www.tenet.ac.za/ditche/claim-procedure )
- Registered delegates who cancel after 6th May 2008 (or who don't arrive) will be required to reimburse TENET conference and meal costs . Medical and other human emergencies are the only grounds for exemption.
- Each Institution must offer at least one presentation.
Attendees from other areas may be required to hire a vehicle to get from the airport and their accommodation to the conference. We request that these be “A class” vehicles (unless there are more than 4 passengers) and that attendees from the same institution travel together to reduce the cost of car hire.
Attendees should book their own accommodation, the cost of which will be reimbursed according to the standard claim procedure. ( http://www.tenet.ac.za/ditche/claim-procedure ).There are many very good B & Bs in the Summerstrand area and a number of hotels as well e.g. City Lodge.
Presenting is an important skill to acquire and presenting to your colleagues can be daunting, but it is part of building your personal network of contacts and of building a community of practice.
Attendees are requested to submit the titles of their presentations at least 2 weeks before the event i.e. by the 6th May 2008.
DITCHE ("Developing IT Capacity in Higher Education") is a donor-funded capacity development program run by TENET. The program was made possible by the generosity of two US donor foundations - the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies - and it aims to nurture the community of practice of IT professionals in public higher education by making professional development resources available at no cost. This event is intended for higher education IT staff who have a substantial responsibility for deploying or managing information technology, in the widest sense of the word, ranging from the purely technical domain to architectural and conceptual issues.
