International bandwidth failure affecting JHB sites and all DSL sites

An fault on international circuits has caused a failure of international traffic to all sites connecting to the Johannesburg gateway, as well as all DSL sites. Estimated time to repair is not yet known.

TSNs 75, 16, 96, 23, 29, 58, 77, 74, 73, 54, 56 were without GEN3 services following a failure, of unknown cause, at Neotel's Pretoria node. There have been three successive failures at this node in the past ten days. Neotel have been requested to open a problem ticket.

An IS switch failure in London has resulted in a loss of all international connectivity on the GEN3 network. IS are working on the problem. [Closed at 18h35: the faulty switch was replaced and service restored.]

[closed] Sunday 1 June 2008: At least 8 GEN3 sites down, explanation not known

At least eight GEN3 sites are without service at present (TSNs 9 11 16 58 23 73 77 and 96). The explanation for the outage is not known, though it appears to be routing-related. No estimated time to fix is available. The failures all appear to have occurred around 10:45 am this morning. This issue was resolved at about 22h30 on 1/6/2008. The explanation for the failure is still awaited.

A suspected fibre break has caused a complete service outage at TSN 29 and TSN 74. Neotel do not yet have an estimated time to repair.

Multiple outages affecting all Neotel MPLS GEN3 sites 6/4/2008 02h30-10h30

All Neotel MPLS GEN3 sites experienced multiple service failures between 02h30 and 10h30. Initial indications are that this was caused by Neotel maintenance, not notified to TENET in advance. Since this is a breach of the SLA, TENET has lodged a formal complaint and has requested a formal investigation and response.

Service failure in Centurion/Pretoria, 28/3/2008 08h15-09h25 (resolved but unexplained)

Neotel experienced a failure of unknown cause, shortly after 08h00, in the Centurion/Pretoria area this morning, affecting most GEN3 sites in northern Gauteng and southern Limpopo. Service was restored after about an hour but the nature of the underlying problem has still not been clarified.

Numerous Neotel failures in the past 48 hours

Neotel have had major failures in the Pretoria region, affected all wireless sites there, as well as periodic outages approximately every four hours, affecting all GEN3 sites. Although these problems appear to have been corrected, TENET has received no explanation for any of the outages. It is hoped that this will be corrected by 4:00 pm 27/3.

Local service failure in Pretoria 14/3/2008 (resolved)

Two sites in Pretoria - the HSRC and the University of Pretoria's Onderstepoort Campus - were without service between 16h50 and 17h35 following unplanned relocation of Neotel equipment. Early indications are that this was beyond Neotel's control but a full report is still awaited.

Routing instability 12/3/2008 11h30 (resolved)

Neotel appear to have a routing configuration error that is causing instability across the entire GEN3 network. The issue has been logged and Neotel engineers are working on it. Further information will be provided when known.
