Announcing the GEN3 Network
TENET
is preparing to migrate to the third version of its academic and
research network since its inception. The new network – termed GEN3 –
marks an entirely new era in South African higher education and
research networking.
Three service providers will jointly provide the services that make up the GEN3. Neotel will provide the South African network, including site connectivity; while TENET and Internet Solutions will jointly provide connectivity to the Internet, both nationally and internationally. Internet services will be provided at the "Breehead" gateway (at Internet Solutions' premises in Bree Street) and the GEN3 network will carry traffic between the sites and the gateway.
TENET is finalising contractual agreements with the other providers as well as Service Level Agreements, service reporting, helpdesk arrangements, ordering procedures, and migration project arrangements. Full details on all of these aspects of the GEN3 will be announced shortly.
