TENET is a non-profit company that operates the national research and education network in South Africa. As an NREN, TENET maintains a number of specialised services that exist in support of the higher education and research communities, and facilitate collaboration within these communities.

The [Senior] Systems Administrator will work in a small team that develops, deploys and maintains a number of these services, including the infrastructure supporting the South African Identity Federation and the eduroam national roaming operator. These provide federated authentication services for over a million students, academics and researchers.

Our ideal candidate is self-organising, proactive and pays attention to detail. They understand privacy; have a strong grasp of Ubuntu Linux; are familiar with virtualisation platforms like VMware; are aware of DevOps concepts and have made use of automation tools such as Ansible; can debug and make changes to software written in PHP, Perl or Python; understand the importance of version control systems like Git; and most importantly, are not afraid to master new technologies when their skills lack.

Prior experience with SAML/Shibboleth-based technologies, ORCID, RADIUS, or X.509 PKI would be an advantage, as would prior exposure to higher education or research (e.g. as a staff member or postgraduate student at a university).
