The South African National Research Network (SANReN) group, working with the TENET, have upgraded the South African research and education network bringing it on par with the network speeds offered in Europe and the USA.
Dr Stuart Saunders, who founded TENET in 2000, passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 89 on 12 February 2021. Saunders was a giant in the South African higher education and research landscape.

All pandemics bring societal change that is, in many cases, permanent in character. The greatest long-term threat to NRENs is that there may be a permanent change in the nature of universities as a consequence of this global crisis.
To help South African universities prepare for and respond to cyberthreats, TENET and the SANReN group established a sector CSIRT.
